The Christmas Eve Candlelight Service celebrates the light that has broken into our world.

During the service, we will contemplate the experience of pregnancy, especially the process of waiting. Through Mary’s waiting, we understand what it means to wait for God, who breathes and moves in us, longing to be born. In the waiting we celebrate a God who is with us, a God whose presence is here on earth, Emmanuel.

Look! A virgin will become pregnant
and give birth to a son. And
they will call him Emmanuel.

Matthew 1:23, CEB

During the Service

We will sing Christmas hymns, look at the birth of Christ and remember that God is with us, celebrate Communion, and go out carrying the light into the world. Join us and feel God’s love at Christmas.

The dress is casual, and all are welcome at this service of celebration.

Because of our God’s deep compassion,
the dawn from heaven will break upon us,
to give light to those who are sitting
in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide us on the path of peace.”

Luke 1:78-79 CEB

Can’t Join In-Person?

We will be lighting the Christ Candle in our Advent Candle ring and light a “candle” at home as we conclude the service while singing Silent Night together-apart.

If you want to feel God’s love at Christmas but can’t join us in person, join us for a livestream at Bryson City United Methodist Church | Facebook

Participate with us!

Celebrate communion by having a piece of bread or cracker and some juice or wine. To celebrate the symbolism of carrying the light into the world, have a candle, phone, or other light source ready.
